Foil dip powder is one of my favorite kinds of dip powder! The foils are beautiful and fairly easy to use. Plus, a one-color mani using foil dip powder is never boring! Just make sure you’re using high quality foil dip powder from reputable companies.
Things To Know About Foil Dip Powder
Not all foils are created equal. Some foils are notorious for “bleeding”. That can happen when your dip liquids are stripping the color off the foils. Work quickly, use high quality foils, and use brush saver if needed.
Some dip powders have a base color plus foils. Some are made up completely of foils. I don’t pour the first layer if it’s an all-foil dip.
Foils can vary in size. Some brands use larger foils, and I really love the look of huge foils!
If you have trouble with foil placement or need to fill in sparse areas, you can use a slower drying dip base and tweezers to hand place the foils.
If the foils start bleeding, wipe the brush on a clean spot of paper towel. Insert the dirty brush in brush saver if needed.
Steps For Applying Foil Dip Powder
Prep the nail (apply peel base if using).
Apply a thin layer of dip base coat, and pour the dip powder over your nail into a cupcake liner. Press the foils down with a plastic bag if needed.
Once dry, use a brush to remove excess foil and powder.
Make sure there is an even layer of dip powder and foil distribution in the cupcake liner. Apply a thin layer of dip base coat, and gently lay your finger flat into the dip. Press down the foils with a plastic bag if needed.
Once dry, use a brush to remove excess foil and powder. Use a stiff nail brush to get off all specs.
Encapsulate in clear dip powder. This will help protect the pretty foils.
Once dry, apply a generous coat of activator.
File and buff the nails.
Apply a second coat of activator.
After waiting approximately 2 minutes (or whatever your instructions say), apply a thin coat of dip topcoat.
Apply a second coat of dip topcoat.
